I haven’t been writing here much lately. So many things compete for my attention these days. I need to be more disciplined to write, though. Not for the sake of numbers, but for the habit of creating. It’s too easy to get wrapped up in busy living and forget about the quiet activities that feed our souls.
That’s what writing does for me. It feeds my soul and helps me to process life. It is a form of communication between my heart and God’s.
So, I’m going to try something new. I’ve worked hard to keep this from becoming a mommy blog. Not that there’s anything wrong with mommy blogs, I just wanted this to be focused on freedom in Christ and spiritual growth. Having a focus keeps me accountable, but it also keeps me from writing often. I want to try using this site as more of a journal for a while.
I’m going to go against popular advice and try writing just for the sake of writing. That means that I will write exactly what’s on my mind when I decide it’s time to write. I will break rules and use contractions, bad grammar, and maybe even run-on sentences. Sometimes, I will write things that are meaningless to anyone else. I will write some things that don’t get published just because they are too personal to share. I will ignore the word count and write as little or as much as my heart desires. I will write until there is nothing left to say or until the timer goes off to get me to my next appointment. I will write for the sheer joy of it.
I might become a terrible writer in the meantime, but I might improve my message. After reading Denise’s book On Becoming a Writer: What Every Blogger Needs to Know, (<—affiliate link) I believe the most important thing is to just write. I can work on other things later. Right now, I just need to get my fingers moving again.
Will you bear with my mess? Some of you might even want to join me.
